Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tianjin, China, for the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Council (SCO), on 31st August and 1st September at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The SCO was established with the primary goal of countering three evils of terrorism, separatism and extremism, which continue to remain a challenge. The SCO comprises 10 members. Yesterday India alerted Pakistan about overflowing Chenab and flooding on “humanitarian grounds", and the authorities in Punjab have sprung in action and relocated more than 24,000-150,000 residents from areas near Indus, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers, according to Reuters. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued flood warnings and cautioned about consistent rising water levels in Punjab’s rivers due to cloud bursts and heavy monsoon rains. Next 48 hours are crucial. The Indian High Commission in Islamabad shared flood-related information with Pakistan calling the communication 'humanitarian grounds.' India is currently in no information sharing mode since Operation Sindoor and Indus Waters Treaty abeyance post the terror attack in Pahalgam in April this year.
Fitch Rating has given a credit rating at BBB- with a stable outlook to India. This as India's projected growth is at 6.5% in FY26. This after GST reforms and the credit rating agency says that Trump's tariffs will be 'negotiated lower'. Fitch says that India's ratings are balanced by 'robust growth and solid external finances', macro stability and fiscal credibility will bringsteady improvement in GDP per capita. "US tariffs are a moderate downside risk to our forecast but are subject to a high degree of uncertainty. The Trump administration is planning to impose a 50% headline tariff on India by 27 August, although we believe this will eventually be negotiated lower," Fitch Rating said. "The government's deregulation agenda and GST reforms should support incremental growth. Passage of other significant reforms, especially on land and labour laws, seems politically difficult," Fitch added .
More revelations in Nikki Bhati murder case emerge. 28-year-old Nikki Bhati had an argument with her husband on August 21 about her reopening a salon and making Instagram reels about Makeup lessons. Her husband said 'this is not allowed' leading to heated argument. Vipin Bhati, husband, had been making dowry demands from her in their 9- year-old marriage. Nikki was burnt alive at 3:30 pm that day itself.
Vipin Bhati has been sent to 14 days judicial custody, his mother and brother have also been arrested. Nikki's husband Vipin, has not shown any remorse for his act and had fled to relatives house after burning his wife alive. Nikki's 7 year old son saw his mother being torched by father. He's an eye witness to the incident.
